Jason Riggs: La Musica

"Sunsets" from the album "These Wheels"

(words and music by Jason Riggs)
Lyrics

Life is so hard, yeah.
I know it’s been hard on you.
It’s a cold harsh, world they say.
I know the times you’ve been through.

There’s a place I know.
Far away, but we can still go.
If we leave right now.
We can make it somehow.
I’ll hold your hand the whole way through.

Everytime the sun sets, I want to be there with you.

So much you’ve lost, yeah.
So much has changed it’ll never be the same.
That’s the way life goes they say.
Now you feel like you’re standing in the rain.

There’s a place I know.
Far away, but we can still go.
If we leave right now.
We can make it somehow.
I’ll hold your hand the whole way through.

Everytime the sun sets, I want to be there with you.
Everytime the sun sets, I want to be there with you.

Can’t make it go away.
If I can, just tell me how.
We could leave tonight.
Say the word and we’ll be gone right now.

Everytime the sun sets, I want to be there with you.
Everytime the sun sets, I want to be there with you.
The Story

"When I was writing the songs that eventually became my first record, I got a lot of feedback. Some solicited, some just shouted out from the back of the bar or coffeehouse.
It seems there were two camps divided on the direction my music needed to take. One camp felt that there were too many sad and depressing songs. The other felt like I needed more sad, depressing songs.
I don't know why there was so much melancholy. I look back fondly on those years and I remember having a pretty good time most days. But, nonetheless, there was a general malaise about my writing. Perhaps lack of a significant other was getting to me.
But, I really wanted to write some happy songs. If for no other reason than to go through some cool stuff that would inspire such tunes.
Oddly enough, this song was the first song I wrote after my father died, and his personality is all over it.
Even though it is uptempo and seems to make people smile, I still think there's a certain sadness running through it."
